Gareth Bale has suffered a fresh injury that will see his return for Real Madrid delayed.
The Wales star has already been out for six weeks with a calf injury but was back in training this week.
However with a return imminent, he’s suffered a totally new blow.
Having felt discomfort in his other thigh on Thursday, tests have revealed he has suffered a fibula rupture, a statement from Real Madrid explained.
No timeframe has been put on his return but the usual recovery time-frame on such an injury is two-to-six weeks.
It is a huge blow for Bale who is gaining an unwanted reputation for being persistently injured. With Real Madrid struggling this season – they trail Barcelona by eight points already – his return was seen as crucial to helping them turn things around.
The new injury will increase speculation that he could be sold by Real Madrid, who could use his fee to reinvest in new recruits.
This season he’s made nine appearances for Spanish giants and scored three goals.
