Alvaro Morata, N’Golo Kante and Andreas Christensen could emulate incredible Chelsea trio

Alvaro Morata, N’Golo Kante and Andreas Christensen have the potential to emulate three of Chelsea’s greatest ever players, says Pat Nevin.

The trio were outstanding at the weekend as the Blues dismissed Manchester United with a 1-0 win.

Morata scored the decisive goal, but Kante – in his first match back from injury – was everywhere in midfield and youngster Christensen performed admirably after replacing David Luiz in defence.

‘Three United centre-backs working together couldn’t get close to dealing with him,’ former Chelsea winger Nevin said of Morata. ‘The skill, the power, the pace and the vision were from somewhere well above the very top drawer.’

On Kante, Nevin said: ‘He may in fact not be altogether built like the rest of us human beings.’

On Christensen, he added: ‘A more assured confident and mature performance you will rarely see from a 21-year-old defender.’

But the greatest praise Nevin gave the trio was uttering their names in the same sentence as Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry – the spine that delivered Chelsea their most successful time in the club’s history.

Writing in his Chelseafc.com column, Nevin said: ‘At Stamford Bridge we know the importance of a good core to a team; Terry, Lampard and Drogba were not too bad for that, were they?’
